Q:My computer is two years old and recently I’ve noticed that it’s taking longer and longer to start up. I remember when I got it, it used to start up really quickly and now it feels like I can make a pot of tea and some biscuits (yes, MAKE the biscuits too) in the time it takes for it to start up. What can I do to speed it up?

A:This is a pretty common question. It seems to be a well known fact that the older your computer gets, the longer it takes to start up. Hit jump for some solutions.

You see, as time passes, more and more things get installed on your computer, more applications, more fonts, more Windows updates. And the more changes that happen to your computer, the more updates that go into the registry, also slowing down your computer. What it needs is a good cleanup.

There are a couple of packages around that can help you speed up your computer. One such package is System Mechanic, an application that promises to make your computer run as new.

it promises to speed up start time by 300% by cleaning up the registry and unclogging all the clutter you have on your computer.

It’s currently on sale from Buy.com at $14 which gives you licenses to use it on 3 different machines.

Check it out, it might be just what you need.
