Who says you can't have it all? Toshiba announced the U920T Windows 8 Ultrabook Convertible device. Combining the performance and form factor of an Ultrabook with the ease-of-use of a tablet. Its unique sliding hinge allows it to be used as a touch screen tablet or Ultrabook with a keyboard. No pricing has been released but the U920T  should be available once Windows 8 is formally launched on October 26.

“The U920T showcases Windows 8, providing a responsive touch experience on beautiful, precisely engineered hardware,” said Steve Wong,  Product Manager at Toshiba Canada. “Consumers will love interacting with Windows 8 on this device, with the operating system’s modern, intuitive touch gestures and Windows Store apps and live tiles. This is just the beginning of a new generation of hardware development designed to take advantage of touch from Toshiba.”

The Satellite U920T Ultrabook Convertible can be used in two modes: as a tablet or as an Ultrabook, made possible by its unique sliding hinge. From tablet mode, users can slide the display back and tilt it up to reveal an LED backlit raised tile keyboard and Synaptics ClickPad™ with Windows 8 gesture support and use the device like a traditional Ultrabook.

Less than 0.8 inches thin and weighing only 3.2 pounds, the Satellite U920T features a lightweight, soft touch surface, offering the portability of a traditional Ultrabook as well as a long battery life rating. Its vivid 12.5-inch diagonal HD touchscreen display with IPS technology provides impressive viewing angles whether in tablet or Ultrabook mode, while Corning® Gorilla® Glass resists scratches. Equipped with a speedy 128GB solid state drive3 and a responsive 3rd generation Intel® Core i5 processor.
