The new device brings some innovation to the tablet space (a kickstand) and borrows some popular touches (Magnetic cover, Gorilla Glass screen). This is the future of Microsoft's tablet strategy and Windows 8. This is also the fifth MS attempt at a tablet product after WindowsCE, TabletPC, PocketPC and UMPC tried to define the mobile space.
