If you pre-ordered the 16GB Nexus 7 tablet soon after it was revealed on June 27, Google says you'll have to wait a few more weeks to get your device. This news comes after reports of Nexus 7 tablets appearing in retail outlets such as Staples and NCIX. It seems there are some distribution issues  which is a blow to customers who thought that by pre-ordering, they would be able to get their devices first.

The 8GB variants have apparently started shipping.

I received an email from Google this evening regarding my own pre-order for a 16GB Nexus 7 placed as soon as the device was made available.

So, because of the high demand, Google will ship the tablets in one to two weeks. Which means that the June 27 orders will be fulfilled in early August. What a fiasco.

The situation right now is interested parties have to wait one to two weeks more or try and purchase another one from retailers who have them in stock.

For those who pre-ordered online, you apparently cannot cancel your order, even if it has not yet shipped!

All you can do is refuse acceptance of the UPS shipment (so the device is sent back to Google or ASUS) and you will receive a refund in 14 days.

This is an unfortunate experience for Google's customers. Specially for such a hot product. In fairness to Google, they never really pinned down a date aside from stating a mid-July launch.
