Nokia Lumia 900 owners on Rogers will be getting a surprise tomorrow in the form of a software update to the flagship Windows Phone. This isn't the promised Windows Phone 7.8 update that will bring some system-wide enhancements to all Lumia smartphones but a general Lumia 900 software update. Hit jump to see the scale of features this update will bring.

The most notable item that this update delivers is one of the newest features of the Windows Phone platform: the intuitive “flip-to-silence” function when receiving an incoming call.

Along with this, customers can now download the Contacts Share app, which allows users to send and receive business cards as text messages. Additionally, this update delivers an elimination of the purple hue that was reported in some devices while in low light conditions.

There are also enhancements to the performance of the startup sequence – most notably providing a more reliable boot sequence following a full depletion of the battery – as well as enhancements to camera performance when utilizing the popular “pocket-to-photo” feature where customers can open the camera application on a locked device with a simple press of the dedicated shutter button. Finally, there will be additional enhancements to proximity sensor performance.

The update will be made available over the coming weeks and can be downloaded and installed by performing a Zune update via PC (or Windows Phone Connector for Mac).
