With 2012 marking the 50th anniversary of the John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida, Google has released over 6000 panoramic views from the space center; its single largest Street View collection to date.
Among the images you can now explore online are the Space Shuttle Launch Pad, the Vehicle Assembly Building where you can see the shuttles in their hangars up close, and the Launch Firing Room from which the shuttles are controlled.
The goal of this collection is to give space enthusiasts and every kid who’s wanted to be an astronaut the opportunity to “walk” in the footsteps of famous astronauts and learn more about one of mankind’s greatest technological accomplishments--the exploration of space.
We have a spokesperson from Google and NASA available to speak to this project should you be interested.
How to find it in Google Maps:
Simply search for the Kennedy Space Center or NASA Shuttle Landing Facility in Google Maps, and once you’ve zoomed in on the area, drag the orange pegman icon on the left of your map screen onto an area that becomes highlighted in blue. From there, you’ll be able to pan around and check out the imagery in 360-degrees.
