Amazon Prime is now available to Canadians but the only includes the free two-day shipping option and has no tie ins to the Instant Streaming of Movies and TV Shows or the Instant Access to Kindle Books that users in the US enjoy.
The service costs $79, this gives Canadians free two-day shipping to "most cities" in Canada. In rural areas, specifically North or the Maritimes, users get unlimited shipping but without the two-day guarantee. Hit jump to read more about the truncated Amazon Prime service in Canada.
Users in some areas will also be able of upgrading to one-day shipping for an additional fee, starting at $3.99 per item.
Amazon Prime has been offered in the U.S. since 2005 it is also avilable in six other countries, and recently expanded to include a free e-book lending service for Kindle users and a television and movie streaming service to its subscribers.
At this point, Amazon says there are no plans to offer these options in Canada.
"We have been working on (it) over the last year and we're very excited to launch," said Steve Oliver, the country manager for Amazon.ca.
