Las Vegas -Because a 5.5 inch Android Phablet is so last year, Huawei dropped its 6.1-inch Ascend Android phone and it landed with a thud at CES 2013 in Las Vegas. Judging from the photos, it is a juggernaut of a phone.

Huwaei isn't on anyone's shortlist of kick ass smartphone makers but that's about to change with the Ascend Mate. Huwaei's thought this product over well and has enabled some customization for one-handed operation. The Mate's dimensions are  163 x 85.7 x 9.9 mm and the beast weighs in at 198 grams. As far as the specs go, the device is quite impressive.

The 6.1-inch Huawei Ascend Mate and the Samsung Galaxy Note II. Oh, it's on!

Centered on a 6.1-inch 720p display, powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, the Ascend Mate has an 8-megapixel rear camera and is powered by a colossal 4050 mAh battery. No stylus on this device though so the Samsung Galaxy S II shouldn't feel too inadequate.

The Ascend Mate's expansive touchscreen also features the ability to be used with gloves and it will run the latest Android Jelly Bean OS. Pricing or Northa American availability wasn't mentioned but this Pokemon is definitely headed to Asia where it will stare down Samsung's Phablets in their own home court.
