UBM TechInsights took a knife and spudger to the shiny new BlackBerry Z10 to find out just what makes the new BB10 flagship smartphone tick. Their findings show that the Z10 has a lot in common with Samsung's flagship smartphone the Galaxy S3.
The detailed teardown shows that the BlackBerry Z10 is relatively easy to take apart (as opposed to some other smartphones today) and it has various components that are identical to the LTE version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4S. Here's what UBM TechInsights had to say.
All in all, the Blackberry Z10 seems to incorporate many of the component selections of the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE. It’s not certain if these decisions the designers made on what semiconductors, ICs and other modules to use were by design or by accident but based on the relative success of the Samsung Galaxy S3, it isn’t a bad model to draw from.
Based on the the popularity of the Galaxy S3, it looks like service and maintainance of the BlackBerry Z10 might share a precedent with Samsung's eight-month old hardware. The good news is because these components are widely available, then they moght be cheaper to acquire for BlackBerry and more readily available than more bespoke components. How long before someone tries to install Android on the BlackBerry Z10? Will having Galaxy S3 components make it easier for the Z10 to run Android apps? I guess these questions will be answered in time.
