People looking to step up from their feature phones now have two new options in the Huawei Ascend Y201 (now available at Virgin Mobile and partner retail locations) or the Huawei Ascend Y210 (now available at Walmart’s 379 retail locations nationwide on the TELUS network).
Huawei has emerged as one of the largest smartphone vendors in the world, ranking no. 3 in smartphone shipments at the end of 2012 and while it is still establishing its presence in North America, the company has been known to deliver competitive handsets in a variety of price points.
Banking on users who want smartphone functionality and budget pricing, Huawei is offering a $80 prepaid smartphones on each network. Huawei wants to provide this segment of the population a full-fledged smartphone experience that won’t break the bank and lock them into a subsidized two or three year contract.
