There is so much nostalgic value attached to driving this car, it's almost too hard to put together specific thoughts in this review. Why? Because there is only so much good I can say, without coming across as hard core biased. Alas, a review is a review, so without delving too much down memory lane (see last Honda Civic review here), I am going to dive into the good/bad of the 2014 Honda Civic Sedan Si.
The Good:
Though not completely targeted at my age demographic - it perfectly fits the 18-23 range - you can tell Honda put a lot of work infusing the interior with sport, technology and space in mind; all selling-point features for said early 20-somethings. My favorite feature, which other car OEM's should take a hint from, is the 5-inch i-MID touch screen display. The UI was crisp and responsive (even when inputting addresses for navigation) and the color contrast made day/night screen viewing easy and actually enjoyable.
Using the screen was especially enjoyable when in reverse, using the glorious back-up camera. (see below)
Bluetooth
Aside from many other positives, something Honda does very very well in all their cars, is the Bluetooth integration. Sound is clear, pairing is a breeze, and controls are so user-friendly, my technology-illiterate father was able to use it without a learning curve.
The Bad:
It's hard to find something truly bad about the Civic in general, it's the quintessential starter car. I think that rather than being a 'bad' thing, the Si sedan that I reviewed would have been more enjoyable with all-leather interior; a feature I have grown accustomed to with the cars I review.
Overall:
My love affair with the Honda Civic dates back 15+ years and, with the 2014 model, will only continue to grow as Honda evolves their flagship Civic.
Each Civic model (Si or not) offers a different experience, yet still remains true to the core quality of engineering we've grown to know and trust from Honda as a car manufacturer. I couldn't have had a better time with the Si, if not for any reason more than being able to relive my youth for a week.
