Cupertino- Apple today announced the iPad Air 2 which features a second generation 64-Bit Apple A8X processor as well as an M8 co-processor and improved graphics performance while being 18 per cent thinner than its predecessor. The new iPad Air also brings iOS 8.1 into the mainstream as well as many of the continuity capabilities between iOS and Mac OS X Yosemite devices. Also new is the Touch ID which enables fingerprint ID verification online Apple Pay transactions. 

Now just 6.1 mm thin and weighing less than a pound, Apple said the iPad Air 2 features an improved Retina display for enhanced contrast and richer, more vibrant colours, and better cameras for taking photos and videos. Thinner than a pencil, the iPad Air 2 retains the look and feel of the previous version while refining the user experience and increasing the performance, specially for graphics.

“iPad Air 2 has a new Retina display with anti-reflective coating, second generation 64-bit A8X chip, all-new iSight and FaceTime HD cameras, faster Wi-Fi and LTE wireless, and includes the revolutionary Touch ID fingerprint identity sensor," said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing during the keynote here today.

iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 are available for preorder starting tomorrow and are available in silver or space grey, are offered at now more affordable prices. iPad Air starts at $439 (CAD) for the 16GB with Wi-Fi model, iPad mini 2 starts at $329 (CAD) for the 16GB with Wi-Fi model, and iPad mini will starts at $279 (CAD) for the 16GB with Wi-Fi model.
