By focusing its prodigious talent and engineering to solve the challenges facing humidifiers, Dyson has entered a new product category with the Dyson humidifier and has managed to solve various issues facing humidifiers. Dyson will use the same Air Multiplier technology from their fans and heater fans to help home environment clean and hygienic.
The Dyson humidifier will launch in Japan on Monday and will be available in Canada in Fall 2015. Hit jump for the full details of this new product line.
Humidifiers have a dirty secret. They can be a breeding ground for bacteria, which can be circulated around the room and inhaled into your lungs. A problem that needed solving. Launched on October 20 in Japan, the Dyson humidifier uses Air Multiplier™ technology for even distribution and Dyson’s own ultraviolet cleansing technology to kill 99.9 per cent of bacteria in water. It projects clean, hydrated air around the room evenly and quietly – helping you keep healthy in the winter, and doubling up as a fan to keep you cool in the summer.
On average, we breathe 22,000 times a day and spend 90 per cent of our time inside. But breathing dry household air can exacerbate breathing problems for allergy sufferers. It can also increase the body’s susceptibility to viruses.
In the winter the air gets dryer. Suddenly a whole host of symptoms occur: chapped lips; dry, dehydrated skin; nasty, blocked sinuses; more regular nosebleeds. Dry air can exacerbate annoying snoring and makes nasal hairs brittle, leaving people susceptible to cold and flu.
James Dyson says: “Humidifiers are sometimes seen as a way to combat allergies and the symptoms of colds and the flu – but in reality many can do quite the opposite. The majority are a breeding ground for nasty germs, which are then distributed around your home. Using patented UV light technology, the Dyson humidifier kills 99.9 per cent of bacteria in the water before the machine is set to work.”
The dirty secrets of humidifiers:
Despite their possible health benefits, existing humidifiers can be unhygienic. They don’t treat the water, so bacteria in the tank can be transmitted directly into the room, where it can be inhaled. In addition, many don’t distribute humidified air evenly around the room – meaning you don’t feel the benefit.
Dyson’s patented technology:
Unlike other humidifiers, which can harbor and spread bacteria, every drop of water in the Dyson humidifier is exposed to an ultraviolet light – twice, killing 99.9 per cent of bacteria in the water. There are over 275 patents and 130 patents pending on the Dyson humidifier. Dyson’s Ultraviolet Cleanse™ technology is protected by five patents.
A piezoelectric transducer in the base of the machine, vibrating up to 1.7 million times a second, breaks the water down into microscopic particles, which are drawn up through the loop amplifier and projected through the air using Air Multiplier™ technology.
Using an Intelligent Climate Control, the Dyson humidifier is able to measure both the temperature and the moisture in the air. One press of the remote and the machine will create a comfortable, hygienic environment. The machine runs for up to 18 hours on a single tank of water.
