BlackBerry Messenger or BBM is expected to come to Nokia's new Android powered X devices as well as to exisiting Windows Phone handsets. BlackBerry confirmed the news earlier, John Sims, President, Global Enterprise Solutions at BlackBerry said, “BBM continues to grow in popularity as millions of people use our mobile platform for chatting and connecting with friends or colleagues, and we are very excited that we will soon welcome Windows Phone and Nokia X users to the BBM community."
This makes BBM more competitive to newly acquired WhatsApp and puts the service into more user's hands specially in emerging markets where text messaging is still the main way people communicate since calling over cellular networks is atrociously expensive. Enabling the transition from SMS or text to BBM and its many features (provided cellular networks and data features allow these to work) is a big win for BlackBerry and ultimately for users of the new Nokia X devices and Windows Phone.
