It started out as an invite-only thing until 2007 and grew into one of the biggest free online email services. The Verge said it tried to set itself apart by offering bigger storage than Yahoo! Mail or Microsoft’s Hotmail and let users send out up to 25MB attachments in the beginning. It even made inbox search faster and arranged emails in a threaded conversation style.
