In celebration, of the North American launch of Kirby: Triple Deluxe for 3DS, Nintendo hosted an intimate launch event with kid reviewers in Toronto recently to try out the new game. And yes, the huggable Kirby woke up from Dreamland and joined the kids in some fun!

My 9 year old fell in love with the new game fast! In the new installment to the popular series, players must help Kirby save longtime rival King Dedede by traveling through worlds while inhaling enemies.  New features include a “hypernova” ability that gives Kirby the power to inhale everything in its way including massive trees and level sections. This was a hands-down favourite amongst the kid reviewers!

Another cool feature is the Gyro controls that come in handy when players need use tilting motions of the 3DS to empty out bowls of water or steer a gondola.

Kirby’s legendary ability to copy enemies’ powers returns with the ability to spit and transform into new forms and returning classics like Parasol, Hammer and Sword. The ability to possess the forms helps Kirby make his way through the challenges. Fans of collecting hidden items will love the more than 250 keychains that are hidden in each stage.

While my son enjoyed the challenges on his own, he discovered that he could play in multiplayer mode and battle his friends. Each player can pick their favourite copy abilities and play against others via local wireless or download play. With Download Play up to four 3DS players can play together using only one game card.

It’s been a week since he’s received Kirby: Triple Deluxe and he’s still having fun with it!

Kirby: Triple Deluxe for Nintendo 3DS and on Nintendo 2DS launches in stores on May 2nd.
