Get ready for the 30 nights of amazing performances at the 2014 iTunes Festival with some of the biggest names in music. Each night an emerging artist will be paired with a seasoned performer to give viewers and listeners an opportunity to witness some pretty epic performances! Past performers include Justin Timberlake, Adele, Lady Gaga and Elton John. The Festival will take place at the historical Roundhouse in London, England.
The Roundhouse is a historical venue that was originally a railway repair shed from 1847 to 1860s. Because of the evolution of railway technology, the building eventually became obsolete and began a new life as a warehouse for liquor for distiller WS Gilbey. The stood the test of time and survived WWII and eventually in 1964 it became a cultural venue known as a cutting-edge space for the arts.
In the 60s, the Roundhouse hosted some of the world's most experimental, and sometimes controversial, acts including Jimi Hendrix, Sex Pistols, and The Doors. It also hosted theatre performances like Steven Berkoff’s Metamorphosis and Peter Brook’s Themes on the Tempest. Punk bands took over in 1976 including The Clash, The Ramones and continued on to be a hotbed for music and theatre until it eventually closed in 1983 due to insufficient funding. There were several plans to revive the Roundhouse and in 1996 everything changed with new ownership. The venue had new plans to create a hub as a creative space for youth. Today, the Roundhouse offers year round programming of theatre, music, visual arts, spoken word and of course, playing host to the iTunes Festival.
You may really want to be there but tickets are only available if you’re a UK resident (they have to apply for a chance to win tickets) but the the next best thing is that fans around the world can stream the festival for FREE on iTunes or through Apple TV.
