It would be a challenge to find a roadster as iconic as the Mazda MX-5. This two-seated, rear-wheeled ragtop has decades of heritage, a closet full of awards, and a true cult following. Last week, Mazda introduced us to our first look at the 2016 Mazda MX-5. It is the most dramatic evolution on the original 1989 design by the company to-date.  From the photos we’ve been shown, it perfectly blends that heritage with an aggressive modern aesthetic. . . one that may just drop the “chick car” reputation once and for all.

I can’t wait to get behind the wheel, but before I do, I want to do a full review on the previous generation 2015 model, so that I can properly compare the two. I feel that to properly judge the incumbent, here, it’s important to get a feel for the lineage. Mazda has graciously agreed to let me get behind the wheel of one in a few weeks. Stay tuned for my next review, a fall road trip in the stunning 2015 Mazda MX-5. With any luck, I’ll be able to follow that up next year with my full thoughts and impressions on the stunning new model when it arrives on Canadian shores.
