Samsung seems to be concentrating more on personal and home entertainment at this year’s CES. They introduced the first Tizen-powered SUHD TV, new Milk VR service, and new speakers and soundbars.
They unveiled the 88-inch JS9500 TV that is powered by their own eco-friendly nano-crystal display technology and SUHD re-mastering engine. The engine is designed to provide improved picture quality and detail, promising greater contrast while minimizing power consumption. Samsung has even teamed up with 20th Century Fox to release are-mastered version of the film Exodus.
Aside from that, Samsung also showed off its collaboration with Yves Behar, designer and founder of Fuseproject. They worked on the 82-inch S9W TV with a curved panel. It sits on a metallic cube and looks very much like an art piece.
The new Samsung speakers were also unveiled. The WAM7500/6500 were created at Samsung’s new state-of-the-art audio lab in Los Angeles, California. With its ring radiator technology, it promises omni-directional sound vertically and horizontally. These speakers and new curved sound bars are part of Samsung’s plans to expand its audio offerings.
Samsung is also expanding its streaming music service, Milk, to add video discovery as well through Milk Video as well as app for TVs and web. Those with the Samsung Gear VR will even have access to a daily stream of immersive 360-degree videos and VR channels for music, sports, action, and lifestyle. It will offer streaming as well as download options in either 4K or 2K.
The South Korean company has partnered with The Walking Dead producers Skybound Entertainment to create a mystery suspense thriller that will be entirely produced for VR. Other content partnerships for VR include RedBull, Mountain Dew, Acura, Refinery 29, to name a few.
