Pebble is possibly the biggest product to come out of Kickstarter and today has gone back to its roots to launch its new coloured Pebble Time. The successor to the original Pebble and Pebble Steel models, the Pebble Time boasts a coloured display, 7-day battery life and an updated timeline view, the watch cost $159.00 while Kickstarter supplies last and will ship in May, one month after Apple Watch is expected to come to market. Retail pricing will be $199. Hit jump for the latest news.
Highlights of the Pebble Time are a new color e-paper display, dictation support via a built-in mic, a curved, 20 per cent thinner design that's more ergonomic, new watch bands with a quick release pin, as well as support for iOS 8 on iPhone 4s and above and all Android 4.0+ phones including Samsung, HTC, Sony, LG, Google, Motorola, Xiaomi and others.
Pebble Time broke Kickstarter with over $1,000,000 raised in 17 minutes, the project's target was $500,000. I just checked Kickstarter and they're at $3,600,00 with 17,000 backers and going strong. Their campaign has 31 days to go.
What's also interesing about today's announcenments is that the timeline feature, which will replace the current Pebble user interface, no longer requires users to open apps in order to gain access to information. The interface is time based and will stream important informationa at a glance.
Best news of all, exsisting Pebble and Pebble Steel users will be getting the timeline interface as well. Great way to give love back to your community, Pebble. I backed Pebble Time (just like I backed the original Pebble), I like where they are headed as well as the sort of innovation they are pushing. Pebble right now reminds me of Palm back in 1999 when they made PDAs' with a thriving community and exciting product that managed to bring software innovation to older hardware.
