The award-winning BlindSquare App is one of the most used augemented reality apps for travellers who are blind or have low-vision. During the Pan Am and ParaPan Am Games in Toronto, the company has joined the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) to offer free use of the BlindSquare Event iOS app during July and August in the host city.
The free offer extends to the 7000 atheletes, their coaches, family, and fans within a 250 kilometre of Toronto.
Using GPS, the iPhone compass and FourSquare delivers information in real-time verbally about what's around the user. Give it a shake and it will provide updates on where you are and what's nearby. The app offers up-to-date information about the games as well as walking, driving and public transit information. It also includes information about restaurants, attractions and accommodations to enhance the traveller's experience while visiting the host city.
The app is available in 25 languages and its most important functions can be accessed through an audio menu.
