Apple's long-awaited Bluetooth AirPods are finally available for order online. Canadians can expect to pay $219 (plus taxes) for a pair and if you order now, Apple is promising delivery by December 21. AirPods serve the purpose of pushing Apple's all-wireless agenda for their mobile products. An ideal companion to the iPhone 7 (which has no headphone jack but ships with Lighting earbuds as well as an adaptor), AirPods offer 24-hours of mixed use, have accelerometers and sensors that can determine when they are being worn plus they have beamforming microphones for enhanced voice quality. Note that AirPods will be made available in limited quantities as production ramps up. Hit jump for details.

Apple's AirPods are a marvel of engineering and design. They sit in a charging case, can be used together or independently and require only one button press to pair with iPhones and Macs. I got to briefly try AirPods a few months ago and found the fit to be quite good (better than the EarPods which never fit me perfectly), sound quality seemed adequate and the ability to access Siri via the AirPods was convenient. Expected to ship in October, the AirPods were delayed as Apple ensured all the kinks of this new product category were worked out.

AirPods are enabled by the new ultra-low power Apple W1 chip, which enables AirPods to deliver high-quality audio and industry-leading battery life in a completely wireless design. AirPods deliver up to five hours of listening time on one charge while the custom-designed charging case holds additional charges for an industry-leading total of more than 24 hours of listening time, ensuring AirPods are charged and ready to go whenever you are.

Apple AirPod shipping times have now slipped to 2017, if you did not order your AirPods within the first few minutes they were made available you might have to wait until after the holidays to get them. Apple did say they will make some of these accessible via the Retail Stores starting next week, but you'll need to go there and try and your luck as they aren't available for reservation and in-store pickup.
