It's mid-way through July and between summer family getaways I'm also looking at what else the kids want to do that doesn't require a full commitment of a week or even a full day. Sometimes we just want a little something that takes a morning or afternoon.
Apple hosts a really great short camp solution for kids over the summer months. The in-store experience offers a themed project that kids can work on using the latest technology through Apple's devices. Your kids don't need to have Apple products to attend as everything is provided but it does help!
Last year my son attended and loved making his own iMovie - short film. He was taught how to create a storyboard, film and then also add in special sound and visual effects. He also was able to add in music and voice overs in his project.
Another option for kids is to create their own iBook interactive story. This experience teaches kids the elements of writing a story from idea to storyboarding. Kids also create their own illustrations using an iPad and then incorporate sound effects and multi-touch features.
This year, kids can also join in the Coding Games and Programming Robots camp where applying logic skills such as pattern recognition and problem solving to program their own robots.
At the end of the one week session, parents and guardians, along with the campers get to enjoy a mini showcase of all the works created. It's pretty cute.
