Ulysses, the popular writing application that just won an Apple Design Award, will soon get a major update with version 2.6. The developers, German software company The Soulmen, plan to release the new version on August 3, 2016. The update will be free for existing customers.
From that day, publishing a blog post on WordPress will be more convenient than ever. Bloggers will be able to publish their texts with just a few clicks or taps; no more exporting as HTML or Markdown, no cumbersome pasting to the WordPress backend. Bloggers can add tags, categories, excerpts and featured images, even schedule a publishing time, and preview their posts – all from within Ulysses. Best of all, WordPress publishing will be available on both macOS and iOS, allowing writers to seamlessly publish on the go. The app supports blogs hosted on WordPress.com as well as self-hosted installations, and it even allows publishing to multiple accounts.
IOS: DROPBOX SUPPORT, QUICK OPEN
iPhone and iPad users, who wish to sync their texts via Dropbox (as opposed to iCloud), can do so with Ulysses 2.6: As on the Mac, Ulysses now offers full support for adding Dropbox folders to its text library. Plain text and markdown files stored in these folders can be used like native Ulysses sheets, without the need for manual import, and all of Ulysses’ advanced organizing tools, such as filters, group goals, favorites and manual sorting are now also available. Files on Dropbox will be synced automatically, without the need to push a button. Dropbox integration will allow users to have all the comforts of editing their texts in Ulysses, while still being able to continue writing in any other text editor, e.g. on Windows or Android, or collaborate with others via shared folders.
Furthermore, Ulysses for iPhone and iPad finally gets “Quick Open”, one of the most requested features from Ulysses for Mac: Writers can search their entire text library within seconds, and instantly open a text for editing, without the need to navigate through their group hierarchies. On supported devices, Quick Open is even available from the home screen via 3D Touch.
NEW “TYPEWRITER MODE” FOR BETTER FOCUS
Ulysses 2.6 also features a new Typewriter Mode, which offers the most focused writing experience ever in Ulysses. Writers can fine tune Typewriter Mode to their personal needs, from highlighting paragraphs and sentences, to fixed scrolling and marking of the current line. While an earlier implementation of Typewriter Mode has been part of Ulysses for Mac since version 1.1, it is now also available on iPad and iPhone.
ACCESSIBILITY
With version 2.6, Ulysses is fully accessible on both macOS and iOS, so it can be utilized using Apple’s VoiceOver technology. The developers have worked closely with visually impaired writers on optimizing all aspects of the app's interface, and feedback shows that Ulysses’ handling of links and images makes it more convenient to use than conventional markdown editors.
Beyond that, Ulysses 2.6 brings a number of improvements and fixes. For details, please refer to the full release notes in the Ulysses press kit (http://ulyssesapp.com/presskit/).
