Xbox fans are getting an embarassment of riches this week. Not only is Xbox One X around the corner (most powerful console ever made, 6 teraflops, 12 GB of RAM, 4K gaming with HDR!), the original Xbox games are now coming to Xbox One.
The games in question are:
Black, BloodRayne 2, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, Dead to Rights, Ninja Gaiden Black, Fuzion, Frenzy, Grabbed by the Ghoulies, The King of Fighters Neowave, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,Psychonauts, Red Faction 2, Sid Meier’s Pirates! and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
The 13 original Xbox games that are now available across all Xbox One consoles now all render with 1080p graphics and expanded color details. But because they are, in fact, the original games running in a Hyper-V-based emulator, and not remastered games running natively, some features no longer work. If you happen to have the original game disc, these will work as well.
“Compatibility is important to Xbox, to developers and their games, and our community,” Microsoft’s Bill Stillwell explains. “Preserving the art form of video games is part of our DNA, which is why Xbox One is the only console designed to play the best games of the past, present, and future. We’re excited to continue to deliver on our vision of compatibility by adding Original Xbox games to the existing Backward Compatible library.”
Microsoft has also revealed that Xbox 360 games will be enhanced for Xbox One X, and its 4K and HDR graphics capabilities, on November 7. Halo 3, Fallout 3, Oblivion, and the original Assassin’s Creed
