Microsoft beat Apple and became the world's most valuable company. The software and cloud giant hit a new valuation peak as shares rose by 2.1% on Monday, with Apple’s shares falling by 0.7%. We're now living in a time where big tech companies hitting a trillion dollar market caps will become commonplace. Microsoft has long been on that trajectory.

Apple celebrated the trillion dollar highlight in August but has since faced a dip in share prices, apparently due to flagging iPhone sales.
