Disney and Netflix cancel Daredevil leaving two shows out of the original six
Just as news that Netflix is raising prices for subscriptions, we are getting news that the company, along with Disney, who owns the rights to Marvel characters, is killing off Daredevil after three seasons. The move was expected after Netflix canelled Iron Fist and Luke Cage earlier this year and there has been no talk of bringing back The Defenders.
Daredevil has been the best adaptation of a Marvel character on Netfilx and the third season was outstanding in many ways. Disney is focusing on its own streaming service (no news of whethe this will be available in Canada), while Netflix has promised to let The Punisher and Jessica Jones "run their course", it looks like the Marvel Cinematic Universe's time in Netflix is coming to a Thanos finger-snapping end soon.
Where does this leave Netflix in terms of engaging content? The company will have tor rely on the strength of its own productions, which of late have not been as compelling. Personally I've been spending more time scrolling through Netflix than watching it, as many Hollywood blockbusters have been removed and, aside from comedy specials, there seems to be very little that's new and exciting.
With Disney vanishing from Netflix, expect movies like Doctor Strange, Black Panther and even Star Wars titles to be gone in a few months.
