After coming to iOS in March, dark mode is finally hitting the YouTube app on Android. This feature, according to the company has been one of the most requested features on the app. Once your app has updated, you’ll see the new “Dark theme” automatically applied along with a pop-up appearing at the bottom of the screen to alert you about the new feature. You also have an option to turn it off and dismiss the prompt. If you want to toggle it back on, you can just head to Settings and then head into the General section. Underneath the Digital Wellbeing’s “Remind me to take a break” feature, you’ll see the new Dark theme toggle.

This dark mode is more of a gray theme than straight out black and it changes all the previously white portions of the app into the darker shade. This includes the app’s background, settings, search pages, as well as the compact, minimized video player. Channels will still retain their colorful app bars but the biggest change will come to the video pages where the video player will stay black before it fully loads.
