Netflix is days away from dropping the first season of its adaptation of the fantasy series The Witcher, so the streaming service releases one last trailer ahead of the December 20th release. The eight-episode first season is based on Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher, a bestselling book series that also spawned the popular game franchise with the same name.

The trailers we've seen so far, as well as this new one, show how Netflix is gearing this adaptation as the Game of Thrones replacement, complete with political sabotage, intrigue, and magic. We see epic battles as well as an appearance from fan-favourite character Roach, Geralt's horse.

Geralt of Rivia (played by Henry Cavill), is a monster hunter, who finds his character's destiny intertwined with young princess Cirilla (Freya Allan) and sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra).

The trailer shows where the first season's likely central conflict will be: Nilfgaard, the most powerful empire in this fantasy world. The realm is after the land of Cintra and its princess Cirilla. And, of course, it's up to Geralt to protect her. We find out how he does it when the show drops.

Netflix has already renewed The Witcher for a second season.
