Looks like Tom Holland and the Russo Brothers (Joe and Anthony Russo) will be collaborating beyond the walls of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A new report from Variety says that Holland is in talks to work with the Russos on Cherry, an adaptation of Nico Walker’s semi-autobiographical novel of the same name. It tells the tale of an Iraq War veteran who comes home and struggles with PTSD and opioid addiction. To fund the said addiction, he starts robbing banks. While the narrator and protagonist of the story are unnamed, it’s heavily based on Walker’s own experiences. The film is expected to hit theatres in 2020.
This will be the first post-MCU film for the brothers. They acquired the rights to Cherry for US$1 million through their AGBO studio. They will direct it from a script written by Jessica Goldberg and produce alongside AGBO’s Mike Larocca. Filming is expected to start this summer in time for next year’s release.
