In the race to introduce almost bezel-less screens on smartphones, manufacturers have to get a bit creative with placement of the front camera. We’ve seen different interpretations of the pop-up front camera, OnePlus being the latest one to join the fray. Asus decides to forge its own path with the latest addition to the ZenFone line. The ZenFone 6 has a 6.4-inch 19.5:9 FHD+ notch-free display thanks to its rear camera that flips out and up to serve as your selfie shooter. This means the quality of your photos will remain the same, whether you shoot landscape, other people, your dogs, or yourself.
It comes with a 48-megapixel main camera with an f/1.79 aperture and 79-degree field of view and a secondary 13-megapixel secondary shooter with a 125-degree ultrawide-angle lens. It comes with Dual LED flash, HDR+, Super Night Mode, and AI scene detection. You can shoot 4K UHD video in 30 or 60 frames per second with EIS.
But the phone isn’t just all about its camera, you get a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It comes with Android 9 Pie out of the box with an improved ZenUI interface. Asus claims its cut down a lot of its own customization to provide an “enhanced” version of stock Android. We’re hoping this also means it has trimmed down the number of apps that come with it. Asus promises the ZenFone 6 will be getting Android Q and R updates.
This phone has a sizable 5,000mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 4.0, a rear-facing fingerprint scanner, dual stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a new, customizable Smart Key button that also works with Google Assistant. The phone comes in Midnight Black and Twilight Silver.
Asus says the ZenFone 6 will be making its way here but we don’t know availability and pricing just yet.
