With Game of Thrones reaching the end of its run, we might have to say goodbye to this part of the story but we aren’t saying goodbye to Westeros completely. There are a handful of shows in development, which A Song of Fire And Ice’s writer George R.R. Martin detailed on his blog for a bit. The author of the books which inspired Game of Thrones previously announced that we were getting five spinoff shows, which he refers to as successors. HBO has ordered a pilot for one of them, which Martin says he shouldn’t call The Long Night and is sent thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones. That series is expected to begin shooting this summer with Defenders and Jessica Jones’ S.J. Clarkson directing.
But aside from that one show, Martin claims two other projects are also “moving forward nicely.” These two are still in the script stage, but are “edging closer.” Whether all five shows get made isn’t certain. And what these stories might be about, Martin won’t go into detail. Instead he says, “maybe some of you should pick up a copy of Fire & Blood and come up with your own theories.” The book is about the history of the Targaryens in Westeros.
