Just a few days before Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy Note 10, the company launched the Galaxy Tab S6. The company is one of the few still making premium Android tablets. And this new one looks to be taking on the Apple iPad Pro. It runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and comes in two main configurations: 6GB RAM + 128GB storage or 8GB RAM + 256GB storage. Both are expandable up to 1TB via microSD. The Galaxy Tab S6 has a sizeable 7,040mAh battery. It has a 10.5-inch WQXGA Super AMOLED display with a 16:10 aspect ratio.
At the back of the tablet, you get a dual rear camera system with an Ultra-Wide Camera (f/2.2) and a Wide Camera (f/2.0) that supports Live Focus. Its selfie camera has an 8-megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 aperture and Live Focus support. The Galaxy Tab S6 comes with an AKG-tuned quad-speaker setup that also supports Dolby Atmos. This tablet runs on Android 9.0 Pie and is secured by Samsung Knox, which is the company’s multi-layered security platform. Just like the Galaxy S10, it has an in-display optical fingerprint sensor. The S Pen attaches magnetically to the back of the Galaxy Tab. The stylus works via Bluetooth connection, which was a feature introduced with the Note 9 last year.
The Galaxy Tab S6 has LTE Connectivity, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.0, and it can stream wirelessly to a TV using Smart View at 1080p and 30fps. The tablet also supports DisplayPort over USB Type-C for 4K UHD playback at 60fps. And it’s compatible with the refreshed Book Cover Keyboard case. The case can be split in two. This means if you don’t have a lot of typing space, the bottom half can be removed.
Bixby AI assistant and DeX are integrated into the Galaxy Tab S6. And this DeX version reportedly allows for a seamless transition between a tablet and PC experience, while allowing for easier multitasking. And when the tablet is combined with the Book Cover Keyboard, DeX mode can be launched with a single key.
Samsung will only be selling the Wi-Fi model when it launches on August 23rd. The LTE version will be launched at a later date. According to Samsung Canada, the Galaxy Tab S6 will be available for pre-order starting August 8th at Samsung Experience Stores, through its online store, and major retailers across the nation. The price starts at $899.99.
