Google Assistant joins Amazon Alexa in the list of virtual assistants that can be used with the Microsoft Xbox One. You can use Google Assistant to turn your console on and off remotely, launch games, play or pause videos, and more. It's currently available in beta to all English Xbox One users.

You can be part of the beta by following these steps:

  1. Join Microsoft's Google Group using your Google Account
  2. Log in to your Xbox
  3.  In the Google Home app for iOS or Android:
    • Tap "+ Add’"
    • Tap "Set up device'"
    • Tap 'Have something already set up?"
    • Search for and select "[beta] Xbox"
  4. Sign in with the Microsoft account that you use on Xbox
  5.  Follow the instructions to link your Xbox and give it a device name

For the list of commands you can use as well as troubleshooting tips, you can head over to the Xbox subreddit

Microsoft hasn't revealed when the feature will roll out to all users, but the company says it's working with Google to expand availability and functionality.
