Freedom Mobile now offers live messaging support using WhatsApp. The Shaw-owned regional carrier announced on Twitter, saying this method is a way to make "it even easier to get assistance." The tweet adds a link to Freedom's WhatsApp number, where its customers can reach them through the messaging app.

If you click the link through your smartphone, it will open up a chat window to the carrier's official WhatsApp account. If you're on a computer and have WhatsApp installed, it will do the same. If you don't have WhatsApp on your PC, it'll open to WhatsApp's website to either ask you to download the app or use the web version to send a message.

You will get a notice in the chat window that this is the official Freedom Mobile account. We must note that this approach is how Facebook plans to monetize WhatsApp. After backing off of filling the messaging app with ads, the company plans to open a better business-to-customer communication on it. The approach is admittedly more useful than what Facebook initially wanted to do.
