While both next-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft aren't out yet, new previously unknown details about the gaming machines are starting to surface, like how much usable storage you'll get.
A leak about the PlayStation 5 suggests it'll have around 650GB of usable storage from its 825GB custom SSD. A screenshot from noted leaker Okami13 and shared by GamesRadar showed the system with 648GB free out of 667GB, including space taken by the free Astro's Playroom install. It takes up around 20% of the memory. It isn't clear, though, if the launch game's size is included in the console's storage space or if it was installed afterwards.
As for the Xbox Series S and Series X, the former—with 512GB SSD—has 364GB of available space for games, while the latter has 802GB from its 1TB SSD. That means the Series S reserves 30% of the storage, while the Series X reserves 20%.
If you're looking to expand your storage for either console, Sony is offering players the option to use off-the-shelf NVMe SSDs, while Microsoft partnered with Seagate for a plug-and-play SSD solution that slots into the back of the machine.
