Over the last five years, Neverware has turned old PCs and Macs into a Chromebook with its CloudReady software, allowing you to extend the life of machines that would be rendered obsolete. Now, Google has acquired Neverware and plans to make its software into an official Chrome OS release. Existing users will be able to transition to the updated software. And once the transition is complete, Google will support CloudReady in the same way it does Chrome OS.
For now, Neverware's business remains the same. CloudReady's Home Edition will stay the same, and Neverware promises to support its existing education and enterprise clients. Pricing will also stay the same for now, with Google honouring current multi-year licenses.
The acquisition is beneficial for CloudReady users as they get official support from Google, which wasn't available before. And perhaps Android app support will come to CloudReady in the future, which again wasn't available to them.
