Natasha Romanoff, the eponymous character of the latest Marvel film, Black Widow, finds herself back in the notorious Red Room in the final trailer of the movie. This new Marvel Cinematic Universe movie takes us back into Natasha's life before she became an Avenger. It is a visit into what can be called the darker parts of her ledger, especially with the visit to the Red Room. It's a training program that turned her into the superspy.
Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow, and this time she is joined by Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Alexei/The Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz as Melina.
The trailer teases us with a gap the movie is filling in when it comes to the MCU and Secretary of State Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, who is played by William Hurt. Black Widow takes place just after the events of Captain America: Civil War, with the Avengers on two different sides. Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man (played by Robert Downey Jr.) warned Natasha in that movie that Ross would be coming after her for going rogue. But we didn't get to see that happen, until this film.
Black Widow is directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Marvel head Kevin Feige. It marks the first film in the new Phase Four of the MCU, and it's unique in the sense that it won't further the timeline of the MCU, especially if you know Natasha's fate after the events on Avengers: Endgame. But then again, this is Marvel, and we're sure it'll give us hints over what comes next for the expanded universe. Black Widow will come to theatres on May 1, 2020.
