After tons of teasing and leaks, the OnePlus Nord 5G has officially launched. It's the company's re-entry into the midrange segment at €400 (around CA$622). At this time, we know the OnePlus Nord wouldn't be sold here. But in Asia and Europe, it will be available starting August 4.
The OnePlus Nord imports some of its flagship features, including the primary 48-megapixel camera on the OnePlus 8, 90Hz Fluid AMOLED screen, and Warp Charge 30T. It runs on the midrange Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor, Android 10, with either 8GB RAM + 128GB storage or 12GB RAM + 256GB storage. There will also be a 6GB + 64GB variant that will be available in India in September.
With 5G connectivity, OnePlus helps future-proof this device. The company promises operating system updates for two years and security patches for three, which means users can get a lot of use out of this phone.
The OnePlus Nord also has the same 6.44-inch display as the OnePlus 8 Pro, but with a lower 2,400 x 1,080 resolution. It also has an in-display fingerprint sensor.
There are six cameras on the OnePlus Nord, with four at the back and two in front. Aside from the rear primary lens, it comes with a depth sensor, 2-megapixel macro camera, and an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens. The dual-camera setup in front is a first for OnePlus. It has a 32-megapixel primary sensor and an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera.
The OnePlus Nord packs in a 4,115mAh battery, which with Warp Charge, can top-up a flat battery to 70% in half an hour. The USB-C port on this phone doubles as a port for wired headphones.
This handset doesn't have an official water resistance rating, but OnePlus claims it withstood rigorous testing that included drops and artificial sweat.
The OnePlus Nord comes in polished Marble and matte Gray Onyx, with six cases buyers can choose from.
