ZTE is not the first manufacturer to develop a smartphone with an under-display camera. The company will be the first to mass-produce and release it to the public, though. ZTE announced that the Axon 20 5G will be launching on September 1. It's expected to sport a 6.92-inch OLED display, which will not be interrupted by notches or punch holes thanks to the front camera hidden under the screen.
According to the company, "all the major industry players" are developing their under-display sensors, but ZTE will officially be the first in the space. We're not sure if it could address clarity issues or haziness, which plagued OPPO's prototype. Shooting through a display panel is challenging because it isn't completely transparent.
ZTE hasn't revealed the rest of the specs, but it's rumoured to have a 32-megapixel front camera and 64-megapixel + 8-megapixel rear cameras, a chipset that maxes out at 2.4GHz, 4,120mAh battery, and up to 12GB of RAM.
