Back in CES 2020, L'Oreal was already showing off this beauty gadget that lets you mix and match lipsticks to create the shade you want. This year, the company is ready to introduce this pod-based lipstick solution. The Yves Saint Laurent Beauté Rouge Sur Mesure Powered by Perso uses three different lipstick pods and squirts the liquid at the top of the device for the wearer to mix and create the shade they want. The top part doubles as a compact so that you can take the new shade with you.
You can create the shade you want using the iOS or Android app via three methods:
Through the app, you'll also see what other shades its users are making and get "real-time trends" from YSL experts and other users.
The device charges through USB-C and promises a battery life of over a week.
YSL's parent company L'Oreal already offers preorders of this device in the US for US$299 (around CA$380), with preorders including two sets of colours from the four options it offers (red, nude, orange, and fuchsia). The gadget will ship in "early spring" and will be widely available in September.
The pods are sold for US$100 (CA$127) per set. You can't mix and match the colours between the pods or use other products. Each cartridge is verified through RFID so the machine can detect the formula type inserted in each canal. It then tracks your use and offers to reorder shades before you run out automatically.
L'Oreal is also looking to release custom skincare and foundation pods later in the year.
