Nanoleaf has shifted from giving us triangles, squares, hexagons with wood-like veneer to lines. The aptly named Nanoleaf Lines collection is modular LED light panels in a bar shape. These are backlit and connect at a 60-degree angle so you can create the geometric designs you want. These feature dual-colour zones, so the lights can show two different colours. While Nanoleaf Elements had a more natural feel, the Lines gives us gamer/YouTuber vibes from the get-go.

Lines can be installed with pre-affixed, double-sided tape, and they are powered by a large plug with a 14.7-foot cable. Each Line light emits 20 lumens, has a colour temp range of 1200K to 6500K, and can display over 16 million colours. You can connect up to 18 Lines per power supply. The lights are controllable via the Nanoleaf app, an on-device remote, or voice control with the voice assistant of your choosing. It must be noted that these lights only work with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks.

There are 19 pre-set dynamic RGBW lighting scenes to choose from within the app. These will shift colour in a predetermined way. Or you can create your own lighting scene. You can choose to sync it with your music, movie, or gaming setup to give a different feel to those experiences.

As with other Nanoleaf smart lights, the Lines are compatible with Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, IFTTT, and Samsung SmartThings. Lines can also act as a Thread border router, connecting your Essentials line of bulbs and light strips to your network without a third-party hub.

Nanoleaf plans to let any Thread-enabled device connect to a Thread network with a Nanoleaf border router. Thread is a crucial technology in the Matter smart home standard, which aims for interoperability of different smart home devices and platforms. Nanoleaf has "Matter in mind" and plans for Lines to work with the new standard via a software update next year.

Nanoleaf Lines is now available for pre-order on the company's website and at Best Buy's site. The Smarter Kits (9 Lines) retail for US$199.99 (around CA$248 converted) and Expansion Packs (3 Lines) US$79.99 (CA$99). Products will ship out by the end of November.
