The next hardware that Facebook is reportedly building will be a smartwatch. According to a new report from The Information, the wearable will focus on health and messaging features. It'll supposedly make it easier to send messages on Facebook services like Messenger and WhatsApp. The smartwatch will apparently support cellular connection, so you don't need to have it tethered to a smartphone to work.
As for its health features, it'll supposedly be able to track workouts with friends, communicate with trainers, and connect to services like those offered by Peloton. It will reportedly run on a version of Google's Android software.
The social media giant plans to sell the device as close to its production cost as possible, similar to what it does with the Oculus headset. Pricing could range from US$150 to $400+ (around CA$190 to $508).
