Spotify is joining the likes of Tidal and Deezer by offering a hi-fi tier for its streaming service. Simply named Spotify HiFi, this lossless streaming tier will be an add-on option for premium subscribers. Spotify announced this new addition during its Stream On virtual event.

Spotify HiFi will be available later this year. It promises to "deliver music in CD-quality, lossless audio format to your device and Spotify Connect-enabled speakers, which means fans will be able to experience more depth and clarity while enjoying their favourite tracks."

The caveat is the feature will only come to "select markets," and Spotify hasn't announced pricing yet. As it stands, Spotify tops out at 320kbps audio, and the company claims hi-fi audio is one of its most requested features.
