It’s been a challenging year (plus) for all of us and celebrations big or small are even more appreciated. Birthdays, graduations, heck even getting your first covid vaccine is a reason to share a little joy. Mother’s Day is coming up so here are a few ideas from this tech lovin’ momma that may come in handy for the mom in your life!
She’s addicted to her iPhone? I totally get it! Never miss a beat with the latest Apple Watch Series 6. Ever since Apple launched the Watch it has become an integral part of everyday life. Mom won’t miss any important texts, phone calls, emails on the go. Peace of mind came to this mom many times while in meetings, grocery shopping, at the movie theatre or even out for a run when there were important questions that came up at home or school. She will also be able to keep track of health and fitness goals and helpful personalized data. Users can also do quick ECG heart monitoring and Oxygen level checks.
Along with the Apple Watch Series 6 I happily discovered and have subscribed to Apple Fitness+ —an incredible library of workouts for all levels with world class instructors. Time to Walk is a great audio series offered through Fitness+ featuring inspiring and influential people from Jon M. Chu, Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda. Each guest shares their story, photos and short playlist all designed to keep listeners moving.
Mom loves coffee and coffee loves her. I can relate. I also love my Nespresso machine and always exciting roasts for my home office. This gorgeous Inissia Red espresso machine is perfect to tuck away in mom's office...or show off on her zoom calls! Espresso afficionados will look forward to the latest release (available as of April 28) of Nespresso's new Exclusive Edition Galapagos. This limited edition series espresso roast (made for the Original line) is sweet with a hint of cereal, biscuit and slight cocoa notes. YUM! This full-bodied espresso is rich in flavour thanks to the volcanic soils and cooler climate that contributes to the ideal coffee-growing island.
Mom is in tune with her overall wellbeing and have turned to meditation in the past year? Then take a look at the new Fitbit Luxe that isn’t just the latest fitness and health tracker added to the line. This fashion forward and comfortable sleek device offers more ways to bring awareness and intentions to the forefront. With a Fitbit premium subscription, mom can have access to exclusive content including the latest mindful series with Deepak Chopra. Also included are helpful lifestyle tips from healthy eating and managing stress. Several band options from sporty to fashionable. I'm secretly lusting over the Special Edition Gorjana Soft Gold Stainless Steel Parker Link Bracelet.
If someone asked me about getting a vacuum cleaner as a Mother’s Day (or birthday gift) I honestly would say “only if it does the work for me” then it’s a worthy gift. When I tested out the iRobot Roomba i3+ recently it fit the bill. The mid-range vacuum takes care of cleaning through the touch of the app and does a thorough job over hardwood, tiles and low pile carpets. In turn, that frees up time for me to do other things. What’s great about this unit is the dirt and debris collected within the vacuum itself is then self-cleaning. Home base is where the i3+ empties itself and recharges. Good for up to 60 cleans — okay, and then I can get the kids can empty the compartment.
Misplacing keys is common for many of us (not just moms, thank you very much) so when Apple recently announced the new AirTag it was exciting news! Just think about how handy this little tracking device will be - inside workbags, handbags, passport wallet (when we travel again), and more. Using the Find My technology, the AirTag will offer precision finding that will even be helpful in dark light. AirTags can also be personalized with initials or her favourite emoji. Add on a tag holder (hello Hermes!) to complete the look!
For the creative mom, this pandemic has given us time to discover and rediscover our inner crafty talents. The Cricut machine has gained much popularity recently. Not only can mom create cool labels for everything in the pantry but with the Cricut’s precision cuts lots of materials - everything from vinyl and iron-on, yardstick, peel and sticks, and more. Mom can create her own cards and customize whatever her heart’s desire even design her own hoodie graphics. Designs and fonts are found on the accompanying app or she can upload her own designs. There are several variations starting with the simple and compact Cricut Joy that’s perfect for quick and fun projects.
Many of us are feeling like we need a good distraction and streaming shows and movies have become a great escape. Roku streaming devices are efficient and great to access loads of content from some of our favourite services including live TV, endless hit movies, popular shows and sports. She’ll be able to enjoy over 100,000+ movies and TV shows across thousands of free or paid channels. Easy to set up and searching across top channels where she can stream for free or at the lowest cost. The Roku Streaming Stick+ is supercharged with a long range wireless receiver for 4x the wireless range and smooth streaming from anywhere in the home. With this compact stick, mom can enjoy brilliant HD, 4K and HDR picture quality. Other Roku options also available.
With the slow-down movement welcomed back to our lives these days, I’ve been very attracted to the FUJIFILM Instax Mini 40. It’s a modern twist that gives a nod to old-school instant photo taking. The camera design feels so retro cool that it works well on our fireplace mantel ready to point and shoot at any given moment. Fun for that whole “back in my day” or grandma’s day to show the kids how you had one shot to get it right — unlike today where we can take ooodles of pics and then decide which ones to keep. It’s a way to truly stop and think before hitting button. Great for capturing all these pandemic moments together that will work it’s way into a keepsake.
