Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event is almost upon us, and the company's head of mobile is giving us hints about what's to come. TM Roh practically all but confirmed that there wouldn't be a Galaxy Note device coming either.
In his pre-event blog post, Roh promised improved screen durability for the foldables, a new S Pen that supports this form factor, and better collaboration with other companies for the foldable ecosystem.
According to Roh, the company's "third generation of foldable devices will open up amazing new multitasking capabilities and enhanced durability." That improved durability is crucial for the success of foldables. And Samsung has been working on improving its display since the debacle with the first Galaxy foldable to the Ultra Thin Glass we see now.
Roh wrote that Samsung is also planning to introduce "the first-ever S Pen designed specifically for foldable phones," which means existing S Pens, like the one designed for the Galaxy S21 Ultra, won't work for this device. Or at least won't get the possible new features Samsung plans to introduce with the next-generation Galaxy Z Fold, which he said would combine "the very best that smartphones and tablets offer and delivers completely new ways of working, connecting and creating."
As for what to expect with the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip, Roh mentioned that it would have "an even more refined style, armed with more durable, stronger materials."
Roh also wrote about the company's collaboration with companies like Google and Microsoft to improve the experience on its foldables and include more "popular apps and services" into this ecosystem.
He clarified that instead of releasing a new Galaxy Note device, the company "will further broaden beloved Note features to more Samsung Galaxy devices."
Roh also briefly mentioned Samsung's collaboration with Google on the Wear OS 3 unified platform. And that these new watches will be integrated into the Galaxy ecosystem, too.
We're going to get specifics on these new devices when Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked virtual event takes place on August 11 at 10 AM ET.
