Former Huawei sub-brand Honor is the newest company to release its first foldable. The new Honor Magic V bears similar looks to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold devices. It folds inward and has an external on one side.

The internal screen measures 7.9 inches with a 2,272 x 1984 resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, and 10:9 aspect ratio. Honor claims the inner display is like having two 21:9 screens side by side. Meanwhile, its outer display is slightly larger than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 at 6.45 inches (compared to Samsung's 6.2 inches) with a 2,560 x 1,080 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and a 21:9 aspect ratio. That somewhat more standard screen size will make it more usable even when you don't unfold the handset.

If you're wondering about dimensions, the Honor Magic V measures 72.7mm wide, 14.3mm thick, and has a height of 160.4mm; and when unfolded, it expands to 141.1mm wide and is 6.7mm thick. The Verge noted that makes it slightly wider than Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold3 but slightly thinner overall when folded.

If you're wondering about durability, Honor CEO George Zhao claims the Magic V can survive being folded and unfolded 200,000 times.

On top of the display, the Honor Magic V carries some top-of-the-line specs, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset (making it the first foldable to have the processor), 12GB of RAM, and 256GB or 512GB storage. This 5G-ready foldable runs on Honor's Magic UI 6.0 software skinned on top of Android 12, which the company says supports multiple app windows simultaneously. A 4,750mAh battery keeps this device running and then tops it up to 50 percent in just 15 minutes with 66W wired charging support.

As for cameras, the Honor Magic V gets a triple 50-megapixel sensor at the back, including the main sensor, ultrawide lens, and a "spectrum enhanced camera." There are also two 42-megapixel cameras for the inner and outer display, so you can take calls or snap selfies with either screen.

Honor will begin selling the Magic V in China at a starting price of ¥9,999 for the 256GB variant. It'll go on sale on January 18. Chinese buyers can choose between orange, silver, and black colour options. The company hasn't revealed plans for an international release.
