The new iPad Air is the last Apple product refreshed and announced at its recent "Peek Performance" event. This new iPad Air has come out a year and a half since its predecessor. It still features that iPad Pro-like look, but it gets a spec boost with an M1 processor, 5G support, and faster data transfer speeds (up to 10Gbps) via its USB-C port.
With the M1 chip, its 8-core CPU is expected to be 60 percent faster than last generation's A14 Bionic processor, and its 8-core GPU is expected to be two times faster. Storage on this tablet starts at 64GB and maxes out at 256GB.
The iPad Air now has a 12-megapixel front-facing camera, supporting Apple's Center Stage feature. The rear camera is still a 12-megapixel one, though.
Its 10.9-inch display reaches a peak brightness of 500 nits and offers HDR support, but the company didn't mention ProMotion. This tablet also gets landscape stereo speakers. This new iPad still uses Touch ID for biometric security, and it still supports the Apple iPad accessories.
The Apple iPad Air gets a starting price of $749 for the Wi-Fi-only model and $949 for the Wi-Fi + cellular model. You can purchase it in grey, pink, purple, blue, and Starlight (a cross between silver and gold). If you're planning to preorder, preorders kick off at 5 AM PST on March 11, with general availability on March 18.
