Google introduced another piece of hardware during its I/O developer conference: a new mid-range device. The Pixel 6A runs on Google's Tensor chip powering the Pixel 6 Pro, making it the first mid-range device from the company that isn't running on a Qualcomm processor. It is also powered by 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a slightly smaller 4,400mAh battery (the Pixel 5A had a 4,680mAh battery). It has a 6.1-inch OLED 1080p display with a 60Hz refresh rate, a 12-megapixel main paired with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide, and an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
One of the phones you can compare it to right now is the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G, which seems to outperform the Pixel 6A, at least on paper. That one has a 6.5-inch OLED 1080p screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, 5,000mAh battery, 64-megapixel triple rear camera, 32-megapixel selfie camera, and an Exynos 1280 SoC with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. Unlike the Pixel 6A, the Galaxy A53 has microSD support. But both get Android 12 out of the box, an IP67 rating, and an under-display fingerprint sensor.
In Canada, the Pixel 6a will retail for $599. It comes in Charcoal, Sage, and Chalk. Pre-orders will kick off on July 21 and will be released on July 28.
