You might not be happy with Instagram's recent attempt at becoming a TikTok competitor. Unfortunately, that isn't going away. Instagram head Adam Mosseri has confirmed it'll keep moving away from its photo roots. And while the app will continue to support photos, he said the move away from them is driven by user behaviour, claiming sharing and viewing videos is growing, and they are "gonna have to lean into that shift."
Mosseri's comments come a day after Kylie Jenner and her sister Kim Kardashian shared a post from photographer Tati Bruening asking Instagram to be itself again. Her post reads, "Make Instagram Instagram again. (Stop trying to be tiktok i just want to see cute photos of my friends)." She even started an online petition with over 175,000 signatures calling for change (as of this writing).
Instagram has been working overtime to try and keep users on its app. Its current solution is doubling down on its TikTok competitor, Reels. Its main feed is also filled with algorithmic recommendations with a few of your friends' posts. The only solution to view content from the people you follow is to head to your Following or Favorites feed.
